Our story:
These days there are still some secrets when it comes to steelhead fishing; because Marty and Mia have been guiding steelhead anglers since 2001, they continue to explore opportunities on different rivers and other regions. Marty and Mia are no strangers to Alaska. They have both worked in Alaska in commercial fishing and Mia has previously lived in Kodiak and Girdwood. We purchased our first Alaskan property in 2003 near Hatchers Pass. Much of the time that we spent there was exploring the bush and the Kenai Peninsula for fishing opportunities. Our natural obsession was tracking down, little talked about, steelhead fisheries or giant rainbows.
We kept finding consistency and great fishing for Steelhead on the Kasilof! So we bought land there! Excited to focus on that river, we semi developed the acreage but ultimately sold for a better opportunity. Pictured here is our house we are calling the “Kasilof Angler Cottage.” That is where you will be staying on your visit to the Pennisula.

On the water:
We will launch at Tustumena Lake and float in a drift boat to the Kasilof River State Park. It as about a 10-mile float. The start of there float is slow moving water and we utilize a small motor to speed up the process to start our fishing. Once we hit moving water we will float to a run then get out of the boat and wade fish using two-handed rods. Most runs are gravel bars and easy to wade. You can also fish from the boat on the Kasilof with a single hand, beads, and indicator for trout if you wish but that is typically not our focus. Skagit lines with a 7 or 8 wt rod is best with an assortment of sink tips. We also venture out to the Anchor River or Deek Creek, about a one hour drive South from the Kasilof. These rivers are small and we walk and wade them. Typically using a 7 weight single hand rod with a floating line or a switch rod with a floating line/sink tip line.
